After three weekends of crazy traveling, I am very glad that I had this one to relax and sight-see around the magnificent Madrid!
It’s the climb.
A wise philosopher once said, “Ain’t about how fast I get there, ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side. It’s the climb.” And she was right about one thing – when we climbed a mountain on Saturday, I wasn’t going anywhere quickly. (I’m more of a flat-surface runner, ya know?)
Now, as many people know I am not really the outdoorsy type. So, deciding to go hiking in el Escorial, a beautiful place about an hour and a half from the center of Madrid, was a huge leap. And I was not prepared.
But, in my defense, I think everyone I went hiking with was part super human. While I wanted to stop every ten minutes for fear of a heart attack, they could just keep trekking along like it was just a walk in the park. I DON’T GET IT??
Thanks to the Hamilton Soundtrack and the grace of God I was able to make it up the mountain and it was worth every labored breath.
I also need to mention the fact that there were cows everywhere? Like. Everywhere… I was 2 feet away from a wild cow. I’m still not sure how I feel about that to be honest.
P.S I only fell down the mountain like 4 times and, after pulling splinters out of the cut on my arm for 20 minutes, I am happy to report that I am probably going to be just fine.
Note to self: Not every rock is sturdy. Trust no rock.
Shop Till You Drop?
On Sunday I decided to go shopping in Gran Via with my roommate which was super fun!
But… while on this excursion I was poisoned with the gluten. Needless to say I was in bed for most of Sunday. BUT, I did get to watch Gilmore Girls so I guess there are worse things?
That’s all she wrote.
Although my weekend was cut a little bit short due to the sneaky demon commonly referred to as gluten, and I didn’t really do much, I would call it a success & I’m glad I got to explore a new part of Madrid!
And now that my relaxing weekend is over I’m ready for this weekend in:
Hahaha… you thought.
